Weekend Althleisure Wear

Hello my loves. Today I am talking about “athleisure” wear. It’s funny because I am so used to using the term athleisure, but I don’t think its actually a real word?? Anyways, this is my go-to look on the weekends, or anytime that I’m not at work. 🙂 I love a good pair of yoga pants, a tshirt and I usually throw on a jean or leather jacket to dress it up a bit.

Denim jacket // Yoga Pants // White tee // Nike Air Max Thea

I love this loose fitting denim jacket by Paige Denim. It’s meant to looked “lived in” and I’m loving this look lately. These run jump and twist yoga pants from Yoga Smoga are probably the most comfortable pants I own. I always grab these on the weekends because they are so cozy. The material is really lightweight, stretchy and soft on the skin. Also great for yoga, which I have worn them for as well. 🙂 And you gotta have a few great white tees. I am wearing this one which is a steal, but I also love this and this, both really cute criss cross tees. I of course talk about shoes all the time, so you probably already know my faves… These Nike Thea’s are great for the gym or everyday. Totally obsessed with this gold pair that I’ve had my eyes on as well. They are so fun!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! This is new to me,  I thought I’d change things up a bit and talk a little fit fashion on my blog! I was recently handed down a Cannon Rebel, so we thought we would give it a shot! Thank you so much for reading, love you all!

Favorite Running Gear & Training Update

Hope you all are doing well! I took a break from running for a bit, but ever since watching the amazing athletes on the Olympics I have been feeling really inspired to run again. I signed up for a few races coming up: The San Francisco Run 10 Feed 10, and the Run Wine Country Healdsburg Half Marathon. I also have my eye on a few Destination Races including the Santa Barbara Half and the Los Cabos Half next year. I love finding races that give me an excuse to travel.

I started training last week and it feels good to be back! I’ve been running 4-5 miles a day pretty consistently, then a longer run on the weekend. Last weekend I went for 8 miles, and this weekend I hope to go for 9 or 10. I dont really go by a strict schedule like I used to, but I would be if I was running a full marathon. I just try to get in as many runs as possible, before or after work during the week and a longer distance on the weekend.

As I am training now, and have over the years I have found the best gear which has really helped to make my runs way easier and WAY more comfortable! It’s really unbelievable what a good pair of socks and shoes can do! It’s really important to me to avoid injury, sore knees, ankles and blisters and each of the gear below has helped me tremendously. picmonkey-image

  1. Lululemon Swiftly tech long sleeve crew 2. Feetures Elite Max Socks 3. GU Energy Gel 4. Lululemon Run Speed Short 5. Cellucor C4 Pre Workout 6. Nike Air Zoom Pegasus running shoes 7. Lululemon Dash and Splash hat 8. Nike Power Speed Running pants

The first on my list is a good pair of running shoes. I have tried so many shoes and Nike Air Zoom Pegasus are my favorite by far. I have pretty narrow, flat feet and these hug my feet in all the right places. I would suggest you try these! You can also visit your local Nike Store and they will do a foot analysis and have you hop on a treadmill to test each pair. I have a few other Nike’s, Adidas and Suacony but my Nike Pegasus  have been my go to for long distance. I haven’t had any knee or ankle pain since changing to these shoes. (Also, the style above also comes in about 10 other cute colors!)

The next most important thing on my list is a good pair of socks. Blisters are not pretty, but extremely common for runners. I’ve also tried many different brands but feetures socks are the BEST EVER. My toes are still looking pretty and feel great after a long distance!

My favorite running long sleeve is this one from Lululemon. It’s usually pretty cold here in San Francisco, so a long sleeve is almost always what I throw on. I would also wear these Lululemon shorts everyday if I could. They are so comfortable and fit so well. I have yet to find any other shorts that fit like these. If you have any other shorts recommendations please let me know! If I opt for pants, these Nike Speed pants are the best! They are light weight, comfortable and the stripes are reflective, perfect for night runs.

Last thing I want to mention is Cellucor’s C4 pre-workout and GU energy gel. I use this pre workout before the gym, but I just started using it before my runs and boy does it get my on my feet! I could always use an extra kick. Also GU energy gel is a must for long runs and during races. I always carry a few with me to take at the starting line and then around mile 8 or so. This salted carmel flavor is my favorite!

I didnt list above, but this Garmin Forerunner GPS watch is another favorite of mine! It’s extremely accurate, easy to use and battery power lasts a long time. I was at 15% and went almost 10 miles before it died. In my opinion, this watch is definitely worth the price!

I hope this helps if you are starting out or if you are an experienced runner! Please share your recommendations in the comments, I would love to hear from you! I will keep you guys posted on how the training and races go! I’ll be posting all on my Instagram and Snapchat as well. Thanks for reading- love you all!

San Francisco Hiking Trails

Happy Monday! This weekend we ventured (not far) into The Presidio for a hike. What we thought would be a quick walk turned into a 4 hour hike exploring different areas of the Presidio here in San Francisco. Jeff was wearing flip flops which really says a lot about us being prepared! It’s always so exciting for us to get outside and explore. I’m always looking to stay active on the weekends so the idea of a hike was exactly what I had in mind.

The Presidio was an army post for over 200 years so there’s many old military buildings and landmarks, forests, neighboring beaches and even a military cemetery. We drive in and around this area all the time, but it’s nice to get out of the car and “get lost”. There are 12 different trails in the area and several scenic overlooks. There’s something about viewing the city from an overlook after you’ve hiked to the top. The fresh air, the workout, the views, it’s pretty magical. If you are visiting San Francisco or have yet to explore The Presidio I highly recommend it! Also great for trail runners and bikers.

I also wanted to share a few other trails in San Francisco which are worth checking out:

  • Mount Davidson: The tallest hill in the city! Several trails criss-cross the hill offering views of twin peaks and the city.
  • Lands End: 3.4 miles roundtrip with Golden Gate Bridge views. Also check out the Sutro Baths and the rock labyrinth, wander up to the Legion of Honor, or head all the way from the Lands End Lookout to Eagles Point near Sea Cliff.
  • Batteries to Bluffs Trail: From the Lands Ends trail you can head down to Baker Beach, then along the coastline. Gorgeous views the entire way!
  • Fort Funston: Offers steep trails down to the beach and can be combined with a trip to Lake Merced.
  • Stow Lake and Strawberry Hill: The highest part of Golden Gate park with views of Downtown SF, Golden Gate Bridge and Marin.
  • Muir Woods: Kind of a must-do if you’re visiting. It is a tourist mecca but the redwoods are gorgeous! Located in Marin, it takes about 40 mins to get there from the city and I would suggest you get there early. Once you park, you can loose the crowds as there are many different trails to choose from.

Have you had the chance to hike any of these? Which are your favorite?

try a new fitness class with MoveWith

Hope you all had a great weekend and are doing well! Today’s post is about a new fitness class platform which I recently came across and have been using nonstop! Has anyone else noticed that ClassPass prices have been getting pretty hefty? Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love using ClassPass as a way to experience different fitness classes at my leisure, but I am always looking for a less expensive way to do so. I recently came across an app called MoveWith which I’m sharing with you today!

MoveWith is a platform that makes it easy for SF peeps to book unique classes – from hip hop yoga to meditation to bootcamps etc- with San Francisco’s best teachers, in the neighborhood of your choice.  You pay as you go  and most of the classes offer a discount  ($10-$15) and they have a great variety to choose from.

MoveWith is also doubling as a platform to support, empower and grow fitness instructors by connecting the city’s best instructors with students directly, offering them a chance to teach outside of a gym or studio if they please. MoveWith is not a network of studios or classes, but rather a network of teachers and students. It’s much more about empowering people and putting the teacher at the center of the experience.

I had such a great experience using the app. It is simple to navigate, connects you directly with teachers while giving you the ability to search for a class or a specific teacher if you have someone in mind. I tried 3 classes-

TRX at Sweat Republic

I have been dying to try a class at Sweat Republic and finally got the chance to do so! The owner Gabby and instructors are probably the friendliest bunch I’ve met. Gabby taught my TRX class and was such a doll. She knew I was newer to TRX and walked me through the basics before we started class and checked in with me throughout. This class mixed TRX with cardio and left me wanting to go back for another. They even have a surfset class and Beyonce dance class which I’m curious to try!

Power Flow Yoga at The Pad Studios

I’ve been to The Pad before and I love yoga classes here. The studio is so beautiful, modern and clean which I find refreshing. The class was great- very full so I would suggest you show up early to claim your spot. I took a 75 min power yoga class and found it to be the perfect amount of workout + relaxation. This is one of my favorite places to be on a Sunday morning.

And class #3 was another Power Flow Yoga at The Pad (because I can’t get enough of this place/class!)

^I was searching the internet for an image at The Pad and came across myself! That’s me in the white. 🙂 I took a Nike sponsored class awhile back and realized they shot quite a few photos of the front row. ha

Although this post is in collaboration with MoveWith, I will never share a product with you guys that I dont absolutely love and stand by. In this case, I have been using this app nonstop and hope you all love it as much as I do.

And because of that, MoveWith wants to offer you all a discount code so that you can try it at a cheaper cost! Use code MOVEWITHFATC for $5 off!

Enjoy lovelies and let me know if you’ve tried MoveWith or have any questions about it!

Float Spa Experience

Hope you are all having a great week! We are off to Mexico tomorrow to celebrate my birthday (big 2.9!) but wanted to share a really cool experience that I had a few weeks ago!

Have you ever been to a float spa? My brother gave Jeff and I a gift card to Reboot Float Spa here in San Francisco so we decided to give it a shot. You may have heard of it, as many celebs including Steph Curry & Harrison Barnes have frequented. Here is the video that went viral.

Floating in a mixture of super saturated epsom salt and water gives you the sensation of gravity, decompresses the spine and puts you into almost an instant state of relaxation. It calms the mind and is said to heal stress, lack of sleep, workouts, jetlag etc. It can also provide chronic pain relief which is why athletes regularly float.

We walked into the spa, took off our shoes and instantly felt relaxed like most spas. We watched a video showing us the do’s, dont’s and giving us options for our float. We were given quite a few pointers to help us relax and get the most of the experience. We were then walked to our own rooms and given extensive instruction to shower, shampoo, condition, remove makeup etc. Then it was time to float! I hopped in, pulled down the lid of the machine and the music started.

For the first 10 mins of the 60 min session the lights and relaxing music are on and the rest of the session is in silence. You have the option to turn the light on or off as well as get in and out as you please. I was afraid I would get bored laying there for an hour, but they gave me tips on how to relax which worked! I didn’t fall asleep but it’s almost like your body is asleep while your mind is awake.

PicMonkey Collage<these are what the pods look like, crazy huh?!>

Overall, I really enjoyed my session! I have a hard time relaxing and this was a perfect solution to get rid of stress. Not only that, but I could see how a few sessions could help with pain relief. Jeff on the other hand had a harder time relaxing. He was pretty hot, but he was also not instructed to open the lid for some air. I also thought I would be claustrophobic, but that didn’t really cross my mind while I was inside the pod. My mind wandered for the first 20 mins, but given the breathing technique they share I was completely relaxed after that short time.

Once your session is complete, you can shower and you are ready to go! I would suggest floating in the evening so that you can just go home and go to sleep. I would highly recommend a session to those of you who are curious!

According to Reboot, here are the top 5 reasons to float:

  1. Reboot your health. Floating lowers stress hormones, replenishes neurotransmitters, and releases endorphins, which induces ultra-deep relaxation and provides a zen-like afterglow that can last for days.
  2. Re-charge your energy. The womb-like environment provides a euphoric boost in energy, which is ideal for when we’re jet lagged, sleep deprived, or drained from a long work-week.
  3. Recenter your mind. Effortlessly slip into meditative states, which has a plethora of proven benefits. You’ll feel intensely awake, yet extremely relaxed and clear-headed.
  4. Release from gravity. Floating will release tension stored in muscles and decompress the spine, which is both soothing and effectively relieves chronic pain.
  5. Recover from urban lifestyle. Greatly accelerate the body’s ability to heal itself from the effects of stress, intense workouts, late-nights, and overstimulation.

What are you thoughts around float spa’s like Reboot? Are you willing to give it a shot?

Thank you so much for reading- love you all!
