Importance of Skincare + Must Haves

This is out of the ordinary for me to post about skincare, but I feel like it’s so important to have a good skincare routine especially when sweating almost everyday. If I don’t wash and treat my face right after a workout I almost always break out. A lot of people ask why I dont wash my face before a workout, but I usually come straight from work and would rather hold off until the evening.

For those of you who don’t know a lot about me, may not know that I work for a cosmetics brand. I absolutely love my other life outside of fitness and blogging and hope to share more of that with you all! I work on a well known makeup brand, which is another reason why I wanted to share my skincare routine. It’s so important to take care of our skin… same goes for our bodies.

Cosmedix recently invited me to a press event at Changes Salon and Spa in Walnut Creek. There I had the opportunity to learn about their line of products as well as receive a facial. I loved my facial so much that I’ve since gone back for another facial and peel. 🙂

I’ve worked at Sephora corporate in the past and now that I still work in beauty, I’ve had the opportunity to try lots of products. I’ve been using Cosmedix for about a month now and I’ve definitely added some favorites to the lineup!

This Benefit Clean Cleanser has been my go-to lately. It’s pretty light and gentle- I use it with my Clarisonic morning and night. (If you have never used a Clarisonic you are missing out! Must have!!)

I also love this Rescue + mask for when I am having a dry skin spell. I usually have normal to dry skin, but this intense hydrater is great to sleep with to relieve irritated or dry skin. I love this right after a peel. I’ve also been using Hydrate + on and off as my moisturizer for those dry skin days as well and love it.

I also wanted to share a few of my other favorite skincare must-haves. (I think I’ve tried almost everything out there so I hope you can find this useful!)

I hope this helps you ladies take care of your skin after your workouts! Would you all be interested in makeup posts? Let me know in the comments!

Workout Updates & Cory Vines Crops

Hope you all had a great weekend! I la la love relaxing weekends home in SF. I feel like we’ve been all over the place lately, out of town and running around so  it felt absolutely amazing to hang out at home and go for a long run today. If you follow me on snapchat, you’ve seen a few of my workouts lately which have sadly not included running. I pulled a few muscles from hot yoga and had to take a break, but as of today I am finally back up and running. I’ve been on the elliptical the past few weeks which was not doing it for me. At all. I’ve been eating relatively healthy and working out consistently,  but without a little but of cardio (running) I haven’t been seeing results I normally do. For me, running is when it all comes together.

I also schedule all of my workouts at the beginning of the week. A little OCD? But I highly recommend it! My schedule kind of goes a little something like this:

Monday: Cardio + Biceps (looks something like this)

Tuesday: Glutes + Legs (usually looks like this or this)

Wednesday: Cardio + Triceps (here are a few tricep exercises…wow that’s an old post!)

Thursday: Cardio + Abs (treadmill + stair master combo)

Friday: Glutes + Shoulders

Saturday: REST

Sunday: Hot Yoga or an outdoor run

I always schedule a 7 day week with 1 rest day, but things change and I will usually end up training at least 5 days a week.

Your turn! Do you schedule your workouts in advance?

PS: These Cory Vines black leggings are my favorite crops EVER. Seriously ever. They are yoga pants but I wear them all time. To the gym, to yoga, out for a run and when lounging on the couch. I love the material- they are super soft, stretchy and high waisted. They also sit just right above my ankle. Highly recommend!

These are also my all time favorite running shoes if you ladies are in the market. Also love these, these and these. And these may be in my cart. 🙂

Have a great week!

Favorite Yoga Studios in SF + YOGASMOGA Activewear

Yoga has been one of those things that I have been meaning to do on a weekly basis but I haven’t really prioritized until recent. I’ve was feeling tight and fatigued quite often and my monthly massages at Project Zen were not necessarily doing the trick. Massages were helping me short term, but about a week later I was experiencing a lot of pain in my neck, shoulders and hamstrings from lifting. I started hot yoga again about 2 weeks ago and I’m feeling like a new person! My weekend routine (& break from the gym) has consisted of a long run, followed by 90 mins of hot yoga…my perfect combo!

I am not an experienced yogi, but practice makes perfect right? (I am hoping!)

My outfit is by a brand called YOGASMOGA. I am ALWAYS on the hunt for activewear, especially comfy yoga pants. When I came across YOGASMOGA it was love at first sight! 😉 I visited the shop in downtown SF and loved the whole vibe. I had a hard time choosing just a few items! (I think I spent a good hour in the fitting room deciding!)

My top is called my racer back and pants are run jump n twist crop. The tank comes in many colors and fits perfectly. Its on the longer side if you like that look. Also runs small, so order size or 2 up! These crops are my absolute favorite! If you follow me on instagram you have seen them quite often! I have been wearing them nonstop. I’ve also been wearing this  mesh tank ALL.THE.TIME and have this one in my cart. I am also looking forward to trying their sports bras! I’m not kidding you, I’m loving this brand! As soon as I find a great activewear brand with great quality, standards and different items I don’t see everywhere I will keep repurchasing. I’m sure you’ll be hearing and seeing YOGAMOGA on me quite often!

YOGASMOGA is offering you loves a discount!! If you visit the San Francisco store and mention my name and blog post they will give you $25 towards your first apparel purchase!! That’s huge- thank you YOGASMOGA!

Now onto yoga studios. Here are a my favorite yoga studios in San Francisco:

Body Temp Hot Yoga: When it comes to fitness classes, I am all about location. This one is 2 blocks from my house, which is on of the many reasons why I keep going back. They have great classes and times that work for me. I usually take the Basic 90 min class, but Sculpt and Power 75 are also great for more advanced if you want more then just a stretch. Candlelight class is another favorite of mine, a great way to wind down after a long day. These classes do get SUPER full, which is the only downside. It is a bit tight in the room with so many people, but there is never a waitlist. They also opened up a studio across the street called Renew which is not bikram, but more pilates, stretch and rolling type techniques. I have yet to try, but let me know if you have!

Yoga Flow: This is another hot yoga studio which I love. The teachers are lovely, the room is always clean and the studio itself is peaceful, surrounded by greenery and a serene glass roof. Most classes are for all levels, and I haven’t felt out of place going at my own pace or taking a break. That said, they don’t offer as many different types of classes as Body Temp. This studio is a bit cheaper and a bit cleaner, but it is a bit further from my house which is why I dont frequent as much. A must try for those of you in the area!

The Pad Studios: This is my favorite non-bikram studio. This studio is absolutely gorgeous! I love the space, class times and thoughtful instruction. I’ve tried both Power Flow and Hatha. Power Flow was vigorous, sweaty, and challenging, and Hatha Flow had us holding the poses longer but still moving through a couple of vinyasas. Both instructors had a great command of the room and helpful approach. I have also heard that they have a live reboot class with a live DJ? Count me in! The Pad is clean, spacious and love love love the instructors here!

I have also been meaning to try CorePower Yoga in the Financial District! Has anyone been? A great way for you to visit more classes and find what is right for you, is by ClassPass. I posted about ClassPass awhile back here for more info!

Would love to hear about your favorite yoga studio. If you have any others to suggest please let me know in the comments!

Zoodles & Shrimp Recipe Using joyloop

Happy Monday loves! Today I’m sharing a recipe using joyloop zucchini spirals. If you’ve been following me on Snap (Yes- I finally joined!) you’ve seen a sneak preview of this deliciousness. Call me lazy, but I love that these veggie noodles are ready to eat with no spiralizer/ labor necessary. 🙂

There are SO many different recipes that you can throw together using these noodles. I came up with this one the other night while having a random craving for shrimp.

  • 4oz shrimp
  • 1 small lemon, juiced
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • pinch of salt & pepper
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • cherry tomatoes
  • Parmesan cheese

Recipe:

Cook the shrimp in a pan with lemon and a small amount of olive oil. Set aside. Cook the zucchini spirals with olive oil, lemon and seasonings. Cook for about 8 minutes then add the tomatoes to the mixture. Add shrimp to the zucchini mixture, top with parmesan cheese and serve.

^^ check out that crazy hair!! Who doesn’t put their hair in a pony when they run?! 🙂

I’ve been trying to get outside as much as I can lately for an outdoor workout. It has been raining the past few days, but we’ve been having plenty of sunshine in between. San Francisco is such a beautiful city with so many opportunities to be active outdoors- I just love it! Today I wanted to share an outdoor plyos workout with you all. I’ve been trying to incorporate plyos and a longer cardio session at least once a week, to give my body a break from heavy weights. I also keep telling myself that I would like to do more yoga, but getting to a class, thats another story!

Plyos aka plyometrics is also known as jump training. It’s when muscles exert maximum force in short intervals of time, with the goal of increasing power (speed-strength).

Time to get outside and sweat!

Outdoor Plyos & Cardio Workout

Jump Lunges,  Ice Skaters >> 30 sec each x 4 sets

Sprints >> 2 sets x 90 sec

Burpees, mountain climbers >> 30 secs each x 4 sets

Sprints >> 2 sets x 90 sec

Box Jumps (or jump on a ledge), Split Squat Hops >> 30 secs each x 4 sets

Sprints >> 2 sets x 90 sec

Jump Squats, High Knees >> 30 secs each x 4 sets

Steady Run>> 30 minutes

Enjoy!
