Have you guys seen all the memes lately about how everyone will look after quarantine since salons, spas and medical offices are closed for a few weeks (hoping not more)? Not being able to go get our hair done, nails done or any beauty upkeep for weeks is a scary thought! I already have a list of appointments I need to make once everything opens up again. An appointment (or a few appointments) at Epi Center Med Spa are at the top of the list!
Today I wanted to share more about my experience with dermal fillers. I’ve shared about botox on THIS POST, but I recently got dermal fillers under my eyes which I wanted to go more in depth about today.
I posted a few Instagram stories while getting the treatment and received a ton of questions from you all, so I am answering them here today with help from my Nurse Minela from Epi Center.
Fillers and botox are both something that people don’t talk about often but a lot of people are interested in. I can tell from the flood of replies you all had on IG! Below are some of the most popular questions you all had asked.
Q: What did you have done?
A: I was noticing a lot of volume loss under my eye and above my cheekbones from age so I decided to get filler for a more youthful and plump look.
First we numbed the area and then the nurse injects the filler underneath the skin, massages it, and evaluates the results and need for additional filler. Depending on the number of areas to be treated, the entire procedure usually last 5-30 minutes and you can go back to your normal activities right after the treatment.
Q: Did you use restylane? How many units?
A: Yes! We did mid-cheek filler with restylane lyft. We used 1 syringe total (1ml); .5ml to each mid cheek. After that, we added an additional syringe of restylane (regular), 1 ml total (.5ml to each tear trough using a cannula technique.
Q: Why use a cannula technique?
A: It minimizes any bruising. I actually had zero bruising and just a tiny bit of swelling after my treatment! You can read more about the cannula technique here.
Q: How often do you need to get it done?
A: The filler should last anywhere between 8-12 months. It’s important to note regarding duration and longevity that it depends on the amount of filler thats done to reach full correction. Essentially, if someone wants to do 1 syringe it may not last them the recommended longevity as they needed more syringes to reach full correction to begin with. This is one of the biggest misconceptions according to my nurse Minela.
Q: What is the difference between botox and dermal fillers?
A: Botox and alternatives like Jeuveau, Dysport and Xeomin are not fillers, but nueromodulators used to treat wrinkles that naturally occur around the eyes, mouth and in between eyebrows. Botox relaxes the muscles that cause the lines. Dermal filler, on the other hand add volume to the depressions around the corners of mouth, lips, temples, chin and cheekbones while enhancing those features. Once injected, it will replenish your natural hyaluronic acid, which diminishes as you age. Fillers will give your skin a plump, smooth, hydrated look and can work in tandem with Botox to rejuvenate the face.
Q: On a scale of 1-10 how painful?
A: Under eye/ cheekbone filler was not very painful for me, however I was extremely numb. I would say it is slightly more painful than botox because of the sensitivity of the area and it takes a bit longer than botox. I would give it a 4 on the pain scale. Lip filler is much more painful in my opinion. This was rather easy and quick, especially if you have a great nurse to take your mind off of the injection!
I am so happy with the results from this treatment! I notice a huge difference, but to the average eye the change in minimal meaning I dont look drastically different (which I like!) I hope this was helpful to you if you simply wanted to learn more, or if you are in the market for dermal fillers. Please let me know if you have any additional questions in the comments!
