I’m backkk | Uber Fresh Juice

Hi and Happy Holidays loves! I haven’t posted in awhile! I am SO sorry for those of you who look for my posts, I have been MIA. I felt like I needed a little break and to unplug for a bit, but I am definitely ready to get back to work! I recently started a new job (dream job!!) and life has just gotten a little wild lately, but hoping to spend more time blogging in 2015!

Anyways, I hope you all are doing great, and still working on your fitness goals! I know, it’s tough during the holidays isn’t it? But stay strong with your workouts, and enjoy your time with family and friends. With all of the holiday parties, dinners and events, I’ve been trying to even out my nutrition a bit by eating healthy during the down times and juicing! I usually don’t cleanse, but I do love to have a juice every once in awhile for breakfast or afternoon snack. So it was perfect timing when Uber Fresh contacted me to try and share their juices with you all.

Uber Fresh is a Bay Area juice company who believes in making each juice raw without preservatives or processes to prolong shelf life, uses only organic fruit and produce and provides blends from the highest super nutrients- each juice is packed with over 3 pounds of fruits and veggies.

My first question was….So what’s the difference between Uber Fresh and other juice companies?

  • It’s cold pressed- which is a method for extracting the juice that does not oxidize and keeps the enzymes and nutrients in tact.
  • 100% organic- no pesticides, no GMO
  • 100% raw- never HPP’ed
  • Over 3lbs of only high quality produce in each juice
  • THEY ALL TASTE AMAZING!! (In my opinion)

How it works:

1. Order Online using link: HERE

2. Select Delivery Type: Choose free pickup from your gym (Bay Area only) or select premium delivery to your door for an additional service fee.

3. Shake & Enjoy Quickly: Juices are 100% raw. No preservatives, pasteurization, or high pressure pasteurization to extend the shelf of our products. Keep refrigerated, shake well, and enjoy within 3-4 days.

I hope you all enjoy your holiday with family and yummy food and cocktails, but don’t forget to squeeze in some fresh fruits and veggies in the mix!

xo, Jenna

Breakfast Ideas + New Recipe

I’m always on the hunt for new food ideas, so I thought I’d share a few of my new on-the-go  breakfast go-to’s here with you guys. I work a 9-5 so it’s nearly impossible to cook a healthy breakfast in the morning before work. I was packing an oatmeal each morning, but I felt like I needed to mix things up a bit. Here are a few ideas that I’ve been loving lately:

Egg and vegetable frittata

Ingredients: 4 whole eggs, 16 oz carton of liquid egg whites, 1 sliced green bell pepper, 1/2 white onion sliced, 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tomato diced, cumin, oregano, salt, chili powder to taste

Directions: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Heat a large oven safe saute pan on high. Saute bell pepper and onion with olive oil until soft. Gradually add the spices to your liking. Remove from heat. In a separate bowl, mix the eggs and egg whites, then add them to the vegetable mixture. Add diced tomatoes. Put pan in preheated oven and cook for 10-12 minutes. If your diet allows, add cheese, guacamole or hot sauce to  top!

I’ve been experimenting with different veggies and spices, and this has been my favorite so far. Please comment if you have any ideas for different ingredients to add! Also this is great to cook a batch on Sunday and bring to work each morning.

This pecan pumpkin oatmeal from Trader Joes

If you haven’t been to Trader Joes recently, you are missing out! They are fully stocked with pumpkin everything. This oatmeal adds great flavor to my normal morning oats. Also another easy thing to grab in the morning and bring to work.

Protein Pancakes from flap Jacked

These are delicous, and so quick and easy to make. I love pancakes on the weekends, it feels like an extra treat. With this mixture, all you have to do is mix with water and heat on the stove. I topped mine with coconut chips in this picture. Here is the website for more info: www.flapjacked.com

Acai Smoothie Bowl with ZICO

Zico coconut water is my go-to for hydration needs. I love the flavor of coconut water, especially before or after working out. Zico can also be used in smoothies, baking and protein shakes, among other delicious recipes. Right now I’m really into Acai smoothies bowls. Acai berries are basically THE BEST thing for you (in my opinion, not even kidding!). You can read more about acai here, here, and here.

For my smoothie bowls, I basically throw some fruit, zico water, a frozen acai packet and sometimes greek yogurt or protein powder into a blender then top a few healthy ingredients I have laying around in my kitchen.

This particular bowl I blended the following ingredients:

  • Zico water
  • Frozen blueberry and strawberry mixture
  • Frozen Acai packet (bought at whole foods)
  • Non fat greek yogurt
  • Protein powder (optional-I used designer whey strawberry flavor)

Then topped with the following:

  • Chia seeds
  • Oats
  • coconut chips
  • Fresh berries

This is perfect for breakfast or really any time of day! (I’ll post some green smoothies soon!)

And here’s another morning smoothie I had the other day using ZICO:

Giant Race Recap

I finally uploaded our pics from the Giant Race from a few weekends ago. We had SO much fun, and if you follow me on Facebook and Instagram you may have noticed that Jeff ran with my mom and I for the very first time!! Let’s start by saying that he HATES running. He is not a fan of cardio, although he lifts with me on a daily basis. He has always sworn he will never run with me…until now. I don’t know what I convinced him, but I did. We were a little nervous for him, as he has not ran in over 10 years up until the day of the race. (Not recommended!) Believe it or not, he did awesome!! I stuck with him throughout and we finished with 9:30 pace. So proud!

Running with family and friends is the absolute best. If you have a family member that isn’t into running, start with a 5k. Make it a family affair. (I actually convinced my Dad to join us in our next 5k!!!)  Encourage your loved ones to get out there with you, its a great environment to be around like minded, active, happy people.

Leg Day + Lunges vs Squats

unnamed (2)

Leg workout of the day:

-Front & reverse lunge (one movement, one leg at a time)
superset with jumping lunges 3×15

-Leg press 3×15

-Sprint on treadmill- 10 mins

-Glute kickbacks on cables 3×10

-Standing hip adduction on cables 3×10

-Box step ups- 3×20

-Sprint on treadmill (incline) 10 mins

-Cool down (walking)

REST & STRETCH!

(If you are unsure of what an exercise looks like, search bodybuilding.com for images and how-to’s)

Do you prefer squats or lunges?

Personally, I love lunges. You will rarely find me doing squats. Here’s my thought process:

  1. I feel like my muscles are more engaged and I’m getting more effective movement in my glutes.
  2. Lunges are more fun (in my opinion). There’s much more variety with lunges. Where a squats a squat.
  3. Less strain on my back.
  4. It’s easier to get the movement right! Form can’t be sacrificed as easily. It’s not easy getting correct form for a squat.
  5. Unilateral movements (movement on one side of the body) is much easier for me to focus on and feel that mind/body connection.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments! xo
