DATE NIGHT STYLE // FAVORITE RESTAURANTS IN SAN FRANCISCO

I always look forward to Friday night, not only because the work week is over but because its usually our date night. We love exploring new restaurants as well as heading to our local spots. Ending the week with a glass of wine, good food and good company is always a good idea! I like to turn my Friday night meal into sort of a ‘cheat meal’ because there are too many good options that I cant pass up! Today I’m sharing some of our favorite restaurants as well as one of my date night looks, wearing my go-to colors: black and white.

I almost always throw on a black tank with a pair of skinny jeans, leather jacket and heels, but I recently found these amazing lace up flared capris and could not pass them up! They add a little summer flair to date night style. I also love that they have a high waist so I can wear one of the many crop tops I own. Crop tops are not easy to pair, as I feel as if the pants need to fit high on the waist but not too tight. These are the perfect fit! The only thing that I will say is that red wine and white pants are a scary combo!! It hasn’t happened yet, but please pray for me!

And some of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco:

A16: One of my favorite neighborhood spots, this cozy restaurant in the Marina if the perfect spot for pizza and wine. We love both sitting at a table or the wine bar if we can’t get a res . Start with buratta, then be sure to try the pizza. Such a cozy date night / cheat meal spot!

Causewells: This is our weekly date night or brunch spot. Its a few blocks away from the apartment, but also one of the best restaurants in the Marina in my opinion. We always walk in without a reservation and sit at the bar for a glass of wine before dinner. Causewells has an award winning burger which is a MUST TRY. I also love the house made ricotta, deviled eggs and smoked trout salad.

Spruce: My favorite restaurant in the city! It is more on the pricey site, but I love the ambiance and of course the food is to die for. We love heading to Spruce for special occasions. The roasted chicken, fois gras, tartar all have my mouth watering. You can also sit at the bar and indulge in one of the best burgers in the city (after Causewells). Food, service and ambiance are all A+++.

Terzo: Such a fun Mediterranean tapas spot in Cow Hollow. The atmosphere is warm and romantic and the food even better. I love the mozzarella de buffalo, bruschetta , hummus, meatballs, all to share with your sig. other.

Allegro Romano: This old school Italian restaurant is perfect for date night. It is located at the top of Russian Hill in a residential area, charming and quaint in every way possible. The staff is the sweetest, they greet you with open arms and always end the evening giving the women a red rose. All of the food I have tried is spectacular and always leave feeling the love. A hidden gem, worth checking out!

Gary Danko: A special date night spot for a birthday, anniversary or celebratory occasion. Gary Danko is extremely pricey, but so worth it to me. It’s one of the fanciest restaurants in SF and the service and décor are absolutely impeccable. Make your reservations well in advance and be prepared to be pampered! Hot tip: You can walk in and sit at the bar with a full menu!

Beretta: Located in the Mission, Beretta’s menu includes antipasti, pizzas, pastas, risottos, and rotating daily specials like cioppino and short ribs. While you wait for a table, grab one of the excellent cocktails at the bar. It’s open late night (food til 1 a.m.), and for weekend brunch.

I am also dying to check out Leos Oyster Bar, State Bird Provisions, Rich Table and Media Noche. Are any of these on your list? What is your favorite?

SHOP THE POST:

all cuisines gone clean

As much as I love my PAC (plain ass chicken), brown rice and greens, I am in need of a little variation! As I have said before, it is easy to eat clean when eating the same meals on a weekly basis. Especially if you are food prepping and cook one day a week for the meals the rest of the week. This is usually my lunch routine, but for dinner I love experimenting with different cuisines!

I also love going out to eat on the weekends, and that seems to be when I struggle the most with a healthy diet. Weekends are hard and there are so many temptations! Of course, while looking at a menu full of yummy goodness, you may want to go the opposite direction, but don’t be fooled! There ARE healthy things on the menu, we just need to become aware of what to swap out.

We recently had a sushi and movie date night this weekend, and I refused to go out on a limb and settle for white rice, tons of sauce or fried tempura. I LOVE sushi, but instead of the usual we can always opt for grilled salmon, brown rice, veggies or sashimi (raw fish). That is exactly what I did, and I left not regretting my meal.

Here are some clean eating thoughts for a sushi night out:

  • skip the white rice (head straight for brown rice)
  • go sauce-less (sauce is high in sugar and calories!)
  • say no to tempura (fried…enough said)
  • avoid the sake and go for water or tea (alcohol slows your metabolism and promotes fat storage!)
  • go raw! (fish are packed with nutrients and Omega 3s)

Sushi dates are do-able while eating clean as long as you make healthy swaps and take the time to think about what you are ordering!

Speaking of food, another cuisine that is one of my favs… Mexican! Who would have thought that you can actually eat a healthy burrito or taco. Here are some ideas to help guide you:

  • Tortilla Wheat tortilla or wrap in lettuce
  • sour cream non-fat greek yogurt (I swear it tastes the same)
  • salsa chopped tomatoes
  • guacamole avocado slices
  • taco meat lean ground turkey

There are SO many variations to eating healthy, and you can still enjoy different cuisines. No need to avoid restaurants as long as you make the swaps, and maybe you’ll be fine with the occasional treat now and then!

What is your favorite cuisine to order out?
