ORAL-B GLIDE BRIDGE TO BRIDGE RUN + GIVEAWAY

It’s been awhile since I’ve ran an organized race and I’ve missed it so so much! I am so excited to share that I am partnering with Oral-B Glide Floss for the 42nd Annual Bridge to Bridge 12k and 5k here in San Francisco which is taking place on August 26th.

Named “America’s most beautiful run” by Sports Illustrated, the Bridge to Bridge Run is a longstanding tradition in the San Francisco.  Oral-B Glide Floss has been the title sponsor of the event for the past 10 years as they continue to inspire people to promote healthy habits- like flossing or participating in a local race!

The 5K/12K race and event expo will takes place on Sunday, August 26 at 8:00am. The race starts at the Bay Bridge, goes down the Embarcadero, through Fisherman’s Wharf and along Marina Green where the 5K finishes. The 12K continues through Crissy Field with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and finally back to Marina Green to finish. Food, drinks, and more will be provided at the after party. I’m so excited to participate in the 12k and get back into running these types of races. I love the running community in San Francisco and this is an iconic one I could not pass up!

Water to Wine Half Marathon Recap

Finally posting some photos from the Water to Wine half marathon a few weeks ago! Better late than never right? Located in the beautiful wine country right outside of Healdsburg in Santa Rosa, we had so much fun at this race. Personally, I think its so much more fun to run with girlfriends. We chatted and encouraged each other the whole time, and the wine at the end was a major motivator to get to the finish line. I didn’t set a goal time, but we finished in 2:04. With another marathon in the books, I’m going to set a goal of 1:50 for my next half coming up in October. Time to train!!

Loved the medal. It was actually a wine stopper- pretty cool!

Shorts: Nike

Shoes: Asics GT 2000

Compression socks: CEP

Post race we decided to do a wine a food pairing at the winery (Kendall Jackson). The food and wine were both phenomenal! Not to mention, the winery is the perfect setting for a race.

Throwing my feet up after the race was much needed! Also swapped my asics for these Nikes. The most comfortable shoe ever.

Thanks to run wine country for putting on such a fun event! I would definitely recommend this race to those in the area.

Do you have a race coming up? Please do share!

I have a few other marathon articles and training guides: here, here , here, here and here. Happy reading!

Greeted at the finish line with these macaroons, thank you Jeff!

(Some photos taken by myself, others by Jeff and a few professional shots as well.)

The Paris Marathon was truly an unforgettable experience. Just being in this beautiful city alone was spectacular. We ran a slow 4 hour and 30 minute pace, which was perfect to actually take in our surroundings.  The course was flat, and the first half was pretty easy, but the last got difficult approaching mile 20 or so. I think you can see with my expressions that I was struggling a bit! But most importantly we made it, had SO much fun and would do it again in a heartbeat. Actually, day of the race I told myself this would be my last marathon, but as time has gone by I’ve had a change of heart and searching for another! Running is quite the addicting sport. The feeling of accomplishment easily replaces any negative thoughts. Going through the finish line and getting that medal was actually a little emotional. We did it! This was easily the best feeling in the world.

That day we went out to celebrate and once that post-marathon feeling of needing food and water went away we were ready to explore the city. Surprisingly walked out of it not sore at all!  It just so happened to be Luba’s 30th birthday which made the race that much more fun. Can’t wait to share more photos from the trip in an upcoming post. 🙂

Nike Women’s Half Marathon / Post Marathon Tips

Yesterday was very special day…it was my 3rd Nike Women’s Marathon. Year after year, I am amazed by this event. Nike does an UNBELIEVABLE job with this extravaganza! Each year they have continued to improve certain aspects of the expo and race day activities. If you are to do any marathon, I highly suggest this be the one. Although a VERY hard course, hilly, foggy and cold… 30-40 thousand people gathering the streets of union square is an amazing sight to see, it gives me chills every time and I am already looking forward to next years experience.

(The blue box gave me a little kick to get my butt to the finish!)

After many trials and tribulations, ie- super longggg tiring runs on the weekends and waking up at the crack of dawn to get in a quickie before work…..I am so over the moon about setting my new PR!!! I ran an 8’37″/mi pace, 1:55! Never regret a workout. Never regret a run. Because when it comes down to it, it was all worth it. This course was insanely hard, but you can truly conquer anything you put your mind to.

You did it!! Now what? Here are some post marathon tips that have worked for me.

  • Walk it out. Right after the marathon keep walking to reduce stiffness. You want to keep your blood circulating in order to repair damaged muscle tissue. Walk another mile (I know it sounds horrible but worth it) or you can just walk to your car.
  • Stretch. It’s SO important to stretch post marathon!! Your muscles will be sore and cramping will likely occur. Whether you decide to use a foam roller or not, make sure to make time for lots of stretching to reduce injury and bring length back to fatigued muscles.
  • Drink lots of fluids. H2O, protein shakes and electrolytes are your best friend. You just lost tons of water and you need to replenish your body. Nourish, nourish, nourish and take care of your body by adding the nutrients back that were lost during your run.
  • Snack time! After a run, you are depleted of calories and need all the nourishment you can get. This is a good time for carbs! Yippee!
  • Ice any painful areas. Often knees and feet will need a little attention. Ice 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off that same day after your race to avoid injury. Ice the following day as well if needed.
  • Continue to recover in the days after your race. Take a few days of rest directly after your marathon. Some people say to take even more than a couple of days off, but I like to run a short 2 miles 2-3 days after the race to relieve soreness.
  • Most importantly, listen to your body and give it what it needs. There are many different opinions of what your body needs post marathon, but this is what I have found has worked for me and I hope it helps for you!

Now, after the pain subsides, you finally feel a sense of accomplishment. Time to look into finding your next race? You decide. 😉
